Lex Schroeder

Writer, Editor, and Host of Conversations on Leadership, Mindful Work, and Creativity

About Lex

I’m a Boston-based writer and host of conversations on leadership, mindful work, and creativity. As a media-maker and community organizer, my work has always focused on how change happens–both at the individual level and in community.

I’m interested in the many ways work is changing, systems thinking, women’s leadership, career design during what Charles Eisenstein calls the “age of transition,” and how Gen Y-ers go about building careers we believe in and enjoy.

I’ve contributed to Boston.com, BostInnovation.com, and Color Magazine, and I’ve worked as a writer/editor for The Lean Enterprise Institute and The Berkana Institute. From 2008-2012, I served a Co-Founder and Managing Editor of The New Prosperity Initiative (NPi), and from 2010-2011 I served on the board of The Writer’s Room of Boston.

I draw from the work of Mary Catherine Bateson, Charles Eisenstein, Clarissa Pinkola Estes, Joseph Jaworski, Caroline Knapp, Mary Pipher, Otto Scharmer, Peter Senge, and Meg Wheatley, and I have learned from and worked alongside such thinkers Deborah Frieze, Janice Rous, Tuesday Ryan-Hart, Meg Wheatley, and Jim Womack. I am a Connector for Boston World Partnerships and an active member of The Art of Hosting community.

The Back Story

I grew up in Old Orchard Beach, Maine and consider myself a “Mainah” at heart. I have a B.A. in Government (International Relations) from Smith College. From there I pursued a career in publishing before spending four years working as an entrepreneur and freelancer. These days I write, speak to groups, and host community conversations.

I’m interested in many things, but mostly those having to do with social justice, creativity, health and wellness, meaningful work, and the power of words. I agree with anyone who says laughter is the best medicine and also believe it’s important to think and write about the hard things.
