About Me
I am a writer, editor, entrepreneur, and humorist living just outside of Boston. I grew up in Old Orchard Beach, Maine–a small resort town about 20 minutes south of Portland–and consider myself a “Mainah” at heart. Kind of like the way Amy Hempel describes beach life in her short story, “Tonight Is a Favor to Holly:”
“We live the beach life. Not the one with sunscreen
and resort wear. I mean, we just live at the beach.
Out the front door is sand. There’s the ocean and
we see it every day of the year.”
I have a B.A. in Government (International Relations) from Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts. I’m interested in many things, but mostly those having to do with social justice, health and wellness, and the power of words. I agree with anyone who says laughter is the best medicine and also believe it’s important to think and write about the really hard things. I love Caroline Knapp’s books, am incredibly thankful for George Packer’s smart journalism, and cannot seem to get enough of Jane Hirshfield’s or Saskia Hamilton’s poetry.
Professional Experience
I currently serve as the Executive Director and Managing Editor of a media startup called The New Prosperity Initiative (NPi). Recent writing/editing projects include a book on lean management by Dr. Sami Bahri for the Lean Enterprise Institute in Cambridge, Massachusetts and writing for Project Have Hope, a nonprofit organization that works with women entrepreneurs in the Acholi Quarter of Uganda. I also write a weekly column for BostInnovation, an innovation and tech blog in Boston.
